Cape Preston Citic Pacific site tour

On the 24th June, a number of the K&M and YACMAC members toured the Citic Pacific mine to view its progress and operations, and meet with employees.

A guided tour took the group around different areas of the mine to view the full mining-to-shipment process. The tour started at the open pit where magnetite rich ore is extracted, and proceeded to the processing plant where the ore is crushed and processed for shipping. From there, the tour viewed the Cape Preston ship loading berths where the processed ore is loaded and shipped to China.

Citic Pacific CEO Chen Zeng met with the group during the lunchbreak to talk about relationships with the company
and to answer questions. After lunch, the tour group took the opportunity to view the mine site again and also inspect equipment that is used throughout the mine. The group were able to inspect an enormous haul truck and even sit in the driver’s seat to get a feel for what it might be like to operate one. The tour ended on a high note at the last tea and coffee stop where a goanna came out from hiding to say hello.
