Employment and Training

The RRKAC Employment and Training program is a holistically designed multi-tiered program that focuses on engaging and supporting Robe River Kuruma members to address barriers, find, gain and maintain meaningful employment with the long-term goal of breaking intergenerational cycles of unemployment and welfare dependency. 

This includes:

  • identifying and addressing individual training needs
  • providing a link to established external employment support programs
  • the new RRKAC Pathways to Employment Program
  • the RRKAC Casual pool
  • internal job opportunities
  • liaising with our mining stakeholders to address agreement commitments

The different tiers in the Employment and Training program highlights the diverse needs of our members and the different aspects employment pathways and training needed to achieve their goals.

Acting as an umbrella program the Employment and Training program contains various smaller programs within, each targeted to assist members achieve optimal outcomes.

Employment and Training Support Program

Key points and tasks to providing the E&T Support Program

  • Employment support – including job applications, Resumes,
  • Training and linking with external providers such as Job Skills centre, TAFE, Daysafe Training, Programmed, Real Futures Employment.
  • Ongoing support for members and employers once employed, only as needed- workplace mediation and advocacy.
  • Facilitating member workshops in conjunction with external providers

Linking members to Robe River Services opportunities

RRKAC Casual Pool

Designed to give members an avenue to learn new skills and build on existing experience within a formal work environment. By engaging members in this space, we can prepare them to enter the workforce, build confidence at work and provide an opportunity to grow in a supportive environment so they are able to undertake new opportunities post RRKAC.

Key points of the managing the casual pool

  • Maintain an ongoing pool of members interested in casual work with in the RRKAC office, program and events.
  • Advertise pool positions to members bi-monthly on social media, flyers in office.
  • Register of members kept and their preferences for casual work.
  • Track days of employment for employment statistics and board reports.

Pathway to Employment Program

(8-week intensive mining and resource sector pathway)

Pathway designed to take a group of 10-15 RRKAC members through various sessions of training and upskilling, to gain the required knowledge, skills and certifications to facilitate a successful transition into employment within the mining and resource sector.

This program is in a pilot stage and with a successful pilot has the potential to run multiple intakes throughout the year and with member interest may be able to branch into other sectors e.g. Hospitality or Community Services.

Case Management – Support and Advocacy

The RRKAC Communities team can work with Robe River Kuruma community to support them in gaining employment. By developing individualised plans and using strength-based approaches the team will assist community in way of connecting them with the relevant services and supports required. RRKAC also offers a range of services to assist its members with opportunities and to access support including:

  • Information: The office is a ‘one-stop-shop’ for information about RRK activities and service provider options
  • Employment Pathways Program: Assistance to get ‘job-ready’ and connect with opportunities for employment
  • Advocacy and Personal Support: Representation to improve service access and address issues with government agencies and other providers
  • Education: RRKAC engages with key stakeholders such as local schools and student support programs to support RRK youth, encourage school attendance and increase completion rates. We offer assistance with career planning, provide information, support and advocacy around scholarships, training and apprenticeships.
  • Case Management: We work with members to develop personalised wellbeing plans which bring in appropriate service providers to address issues and  leverage an individual’s strengths to help them meet their aspirations
  • Community Engagement: Activities that keep people informed and ensure RRKAC is listening to the needs of its members
